September

Hello Parents and Guardians!

Each month there will be a new post describing that months events. As needed there will be additional posts. Please read through thoroughly for any questions you may have. If you have a question specific to your student please send a private email. Upcoming events are also listed to the right of the monthly posts.

Homework

Math

Students will have math homework every night except the days we take a math test. When I teach a math lesson on Fridays I try to give them enough time in class to finish their homework.

Spelling and Reading

Students have a month to complete their reading and spelling homework. Both are due on September 30th. They must turn work in with their spelling contract. They will not have a reading contract during the months they do a book report.

What are we learning this month?

Math

  • Chapter 2 Add and Subtract Whole Numbers

  • Chapter 3 Understanding Multiplication and Division

  • Chapter 4 Multiply with One Digit Numbers

Language Arts

  • September 6-9: Unit 1 Week 3

  • September 12-16: Unit 1 Week 4

  • September 19-23: Unit 1 Week 5

  • September 26-30: No Spelling!

  • Writing Week September 26th-30th

Science

  • Water Cycle Unit

  • Weather Unit

Social Studies

  • We are have been learning about Utah land forms and ancient animals. Each student will be assigned a dinosaur project this month. All directions and supplies will be sent home later this month.

Upcoming Events in Fourth Grade

Thanksgiving Point Gardens Field Trip

Date: September 15th

Time: 9:30-1:30

The entire fourth grade will be attending the explorer plus at Thanksgiving Points Gardens. Students will experience the development of soil and exploring the many interactive aspects of the Gardens. Please make sure your student is in performance dress and has a bag lunch.

P.E. Wonder Day

Date: September 16th

Time: 10:50-12:00

The fourth grade will be exploring metric measurement through 5 different centers. They will be measuring distance, volume, and mass. This is a good chance to introduce the type of measurement we will be learning about later in the year. We are still looking for volunteers to run a one of the centers and supplies that will help us with our wonder day.
